Area visits are the main way through which SPEED connects with the sector. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, weekly visits to our partner areas provided an opportunity for our members to aid in the practice of area kids’ social skills. By going to the different partner areas, members were able to build personal connections to the sector which contributed to a bigger impact in trying to support the sector.
Area online
During the COVID-19 pandemic, area engagements have fully transitioned online so that org members can continue to interact with our partner areas virtually. Activities include video calls in which both partner area kids and org members do modules together. Opportunities to create asynchronous modules that the partner area kids can do in their own time are also available; these range from instructional videos to printed activities that respond to the specific needs and goals of each partner area. Everyone has the opportunity to interact and contribute to the goal of creating a support system for all our partner areas.
